Term project
For this long term project I decided to focus on my practice goal and create something more related to it. I am in visual arts majoring in sculpture with the objective of working in the film industry as a set/production designer. My main target throughout my studies is to learn how to use different materials, hence why I've worked with distinct practices that have helped me explore different techniques and try their limit in regards to their use. I would say my past works have been really experimental in order to get familiar with each material; I’ve used metal, wood, textiles, among others and ultimately learned about them. As mentioned above, I want to start incorporating the knowledge I have acquired throughout my first years at Emily Carr and apply it on a project that is directed towards the set design subject. My long term project would consist of a physical scrapbook material where it can be observed in its content the knowledge I have gained, specifically material wise, throughout the years. Mostly focusing on my past works I’ll portray my creative process while depicting the insight I acquired of each material I have worked with to show the awareness I have towards them. Overall, this proposal shows the importance that this project has over materials themselves and it’s important to mention that for set/production design one of the most crucial abilities to have is the understanding of the limits and capabilities of each material; with this knowledge it is possible to work on creating any type of prop by using a variety of tools and supplies without them necessarily having to be the real material or thing which ultimately is what they are looking for at this career.
