object response
I decided to reply to the old incense burner because the moment they showed it, it catched my attention. Not only because I am familiar with the activity it is used for, but it reminded me of other connections I have of it in my life. The most relevant being my ceramic practice that throughout these last years at emily carr I have discovered and found myself being really passionate about it. Thanks to ceramics, I appreciate any piece more. Anytime I see an object related in any way to clay I find it more interesting than regular ones thanks to the knowledge I have acquired by working with this material closely so when I first saw the incense burner I couldn't help but think about the amount of detail and time that the creator must have put into it. I found this object being really appealing and got me thinking how different incense burner models have changed throughout time. For my response I decided to draw with charcoal different incense burners to portray how interesting these small objects can be, specifically focusing on their shape and size variation that achieve the same objective. Even though my first idea was to draw these objects using the own incense burner dust you get after lighting up one I realized that I would’ve needed to burn so many to get enough powder for me to be able to use it as the material.

My main objective that I want to work for more during this term is focusing on my own practice. I believe the last two years at Emily Carr have helped me focus on learning how different materials work by creating various experimental works, however now that I possess some knowledge of them I would like to use them according to my future practice related to set design.
